A new gated community was recently built near our school. Just outside our building is an old, dilapidated garden that is overgrown and in desperate need of maintenance. The teacher who started the garden retired, and no one in our school had the time or the know-how to maintain the garden in our place. One day, a group of seniors that live in the new community came knocking on our school door. They saw the garden was in desperate need of a little TLC, and volunteered to take over. Before you know it, the garden was in tip-top shape. This group of men and women volunteered their time and expertise to making our school garden a place to learn in again. Groups of students visit the garden, and under the direction of these fine citizens, are learning all about nature.
